Never trust a lawyer-human or demon-when he, she, or it says a case is going to be quick or easy. Barney River should have known that. He's an experienced lawyer, who just wants to help his human clients deal with whatever mess they've gotten into with the local demons, whether it's a contract dispute, an auto accident, or having their bodies possessed without permission. He should have been screaming that old truism when a friendly demon lawyer offered him an easy and lucrative case-a client who knew something had been stolen, but had no idea what it was. But he didn't. And, sure enough, when Barney goes to investigate, he starts a chain of events that will have him attacked by demons, threatened by police, investigated by secret agents, harassed by a sartorially-exquisite, seven foot-tall demon lawyer, thrown into jail, kidnapped-and all while trying to help his clients (the addled, the elderly, and the possessed) obtain justice. As the stakes rise for human- and demonkind, Barney will have to decide whether to save himself, or protect his clients from angry demons, human warlocks, government special forces, and a still-developing legal system on the brink of chaos.
