We continue to follow the lives of John David's family: May-Lynn, Olivia and John Jr. After the death of her husband, May-Lynn faces the uphill battle of singlehandedly raising her children. As the months and years roll by, her grief for John David, her husband persists. Seeking closure, she travels back to Mississippi to visit the place where he died. On the day that she departs, the scene at the train station as she waves good-bye to her children is a heart-wrenching one. While her mother is away, Olivia takes on the maternal role to help raise John Jr but he rejects her help. John Jr struggles with the absence of both his parents and is simply too angry and hurt to heed his sister's guidance.
