Excerpt from A Poem to the Memory of William Congreve
The following poem, commemorative of Congreve. Is here reprinted for the first time since its publi cation in 1729, and is here for the first time attri buted to Thomson. It has escaped the lynx-like research of Mr. Bolton Corney, the accurate annotator of Murdoch's life, and was pointed out to its present Editor by the Rev. H. F. Cary, the translator of Dante, who assigned it to Thomson from the characteristic impress which it bears to the acknowledged productions of that delightful poet.
