The contributions in this volume are based on a colloquium held in September 2007 by the Transatlantic Policy Consortium at Indiana University, Bloomington. The book investigates the impacts of globalization and global competition on the performance, mission, role, and shape of American and European universities. It also identifies the differences between American and European universities regarding societal support, research, management, and leadership. Additionally, it examines ways of closing the gaps and meeting university quality challenges and assesses the values of the Bologna Process and the changing nature of university governance.
