had recorded in many settings through the years, but never solo. He emphasizes chords, does not utilize basslines much, and keeps the melodies of the songs nearby. His interpretations are concise and usually at relaxed tempos. The music on
Alone
can work quite well as backgrounds, but a close listen will reveal subtle and quiet creativity. A special surprise is
Ponder
's effective vocal (his first on record in 15 years) during
"Our Day Will Come."
