What are the distinguishing markers of evangelical theology? What does an evangelical account of spiritual theology look like? In An Evangelical Spiritual Theology, Goggin presents Donald Bloesch as a model of evangelical spiritual theology, whose dogmatic project provides intriguing answers to these questions. The doctrine of the Christian life definitively shapes Bloesch's theological identity and work. For Bloesch, the Christian life is a materially distributed doctrine that is presupposed and pervasive throughout the whole of his theological system. This emphasis on the Christian life establishes Bloesch's unique location as a spiritual theologian on the landscape of evangelical theology. Goggin's monograph is the first exhaustive treatment of Bloesch's entire theological project. Those interested in Bloesch's work will find it to be a rich resource to explore various dimensions of his dogmatic project.
