Awful moments can become Awe-full moments; moments of wonder, moments of grace. Sometimes petty annoyances are transformed into awe-full instances of spiritual growth. At other times events we thought would kill us emotionally and spiritually, if not physically, become milestones of awe-full spiritual transformation.Faith draining personal tragedies can become the foundation for even stronger faith. Seemingly inconsequential events can be turned into points of spiritual progress. Things we held secret deep inside, ashamed to share with others, when surrendered to the light of truth can become turning points, changing those events from awful to awe-full.Awe-full instances come, too, when we realize a grand truth for the first time. Those flashes of insight, those moments of enlightenment that God offers to each of us, that change our perspective, and give us a portrait of truth we might never have seen except through God's generosity in the present moment. Being present to the present can be awe-full.Awe-full Moments: Spirituality in the Commonplace, is the sharing of some moments of awfulness that ultimately became awe-full moments. It’s also awe-full moments that were full of awe simply because they were awe-inspiring, take-your-breath-away moments. No pain, just joy so awesome it can only be described as awe-full. Awe-full moments happen to each of us, but we often miss the awe-fullness because we are mired in the awfulness of an incident. Yet we grow spiritually not despite the awful moments, events and conditions we all have to face, but because of them. Awful can become awe-full—not necessarily easily or immediately—but through openness and willingness to let God work in our lives—and by being aware of Him doing so.
