Despite societal pressures to produce tangible results during artist residencies,
Configurations of Time
values process in its own right
For artists who have done a residency, are preparing for one, or for those just interested in creative processes and how artists work within theories of time,
offers a way to rethink the concept of time within the setting of an artist residency. With a decade of experience in various artist residency programs, Angela Serino explores what is put into motion by the experience of being “in residence” that is not immediately visible or quantifiable. Finding inspiration from a wide range of artists’ works and conceptualizations of time in science and cultural theory, Serino looks at how time is spent in residencies through the different and overlapping concepts of space time, care time and soil time.
Angela Serino
is a curator and researcher based in Amsterdam. In 2020, she cofounded the Art Residency Research Collective (ARRC), which aims to study the shifting practices of art residencies through a hybrid residency format.
