This book provides an overview of the prior authority of the CPSC to establish consumer product safety standards and to inspect and recall unsafe consumer products. This book also describes the new requirements for certification and testing and the effect of the stay of enforcement of these requirements announced by the CPSC, certain new safety standards established by the CPSIA and related implementation actions and issues. In addition, the authors assessed injury and death data sources used by CPSC, compared CPSC's consumer education efforts with key practices, and interviewed federal officials and groups representing the health and consumer interests of minority populations.
