In this searching study of the origins of the Cuban Revolution, Ramón Eduardo Ruiz analyzes the Revolution as the climax of long years of struggle. He demonstrates that the Revolution did not represent a sharp break with the past, but grew out of events and circumstances that had been developing for well over half a century.
Professor Ruiz's analysis begins with Cuba's historic relationship with the United States, examining the effect of the sugar industry and U.S. foreign policy on Cuba's economy, social structure, and political development.
