Shelby Taylor is a 28-year-old, beautiful and successful forensic accountant at Palmer Ent., the most established firm in all of Seattle. Shelby is an African American woman who is a bit of a lone wolf, preferring to keep her life simple and unfettered. But the structured mentality and career that she has worked so hard for is going to soon be tested, as her long-time best friend, Jessica Akers, is in league with Shelby for the new top spot. On top of this, Shelby has dark corners of her past that she is trying to leave behind her, namely, her ex fiance, Clayton Bryant. Her patient and honest nature are tested as she scrambles to keep everything together while keeping her friendship intact. That is, until Jessica Akers is found dead at the bottom of a twenty story building in the heart of the city. A note in her pocket describes that the stress of her work and her life was too much to bear. When Shelby heard the news the next morning, she is devastated. But she can't shake the feeling that not everything is what it seemed. She begins to launch her own investigation into Jessica's life, realizing that she was not as innocent as Shelby once believed.
