Originally published in 1977, this selection of documents is carefully arranged and edited to illustrate the main characteristics of the British system of government during a period of extensive constitutional and administrative change. The intention is to give students a direct knowledge of the basic materials upon which the study of British government is founded, and to demonstrate the vitality and significance of primary sources to which the student often has little access or guidance. Since the material is drawn principally from the late 1960s and the early 1970s, constitutional and governmental developments at this time are well documented. This volumes filled a clear gap in the field and will even today, not only be an invaluable complement to existing textbooks on this period, but may be used by teachers to complement their own courses and lectures.
