Dragon Keep, once a jewel of the Inland Sea empire, has fallen into ruin. Now, it has been purchased by a mysterious woman named Wendi, who keeps herself hidden from view, and her not-quite-human friends.
Wendi has reasons to hide herself from the entire world. Her soulless eyes and a deep scar running down her face are the only clues she has about her real identity as she searches for any information about her own past. With memories fading as the years go by, she knows that she is running out of time if she expects anyone to know anything.
During her travels, she rescues a trio of men from slavery and finds herself bound to them as their families force them to work off their debt to her at Dragon Keep. Despite Wendi's intentions of staying to herself, one of them - a McClannahan, no less - simply won't stay out of her way... or her business.
