This United States Army manual, Field Manual FM 3-83 (1-05) Religious Affairs April 2025, is the definitive source of doctrine for religious affairs across the Army. It describes the context of religious affairs and religious affairs operations within the Army. The principal audience for FM 3-83 is commanders, leaders, unit staff planners, personnel requesting religious affairs, and Chaplain Corps personnel (chaplains and religious affairs specialists). Commanders and staffs of Army headquarters serving as joint task force or multinational headquarters should also refer to applicable joint or multinational doctrine concerning the range of military operations and joint or multinational forces. Trainers and educators throughout the Army will also use this publication.
