The editors of this volume have chosen a wide, multidisciplinary approach to the question of Orientalism, so as to confront the visions of the Orient from various European countries, including the English speaking world, but also Central and Eastern Europe. Articles by specialist historians, geographers, linguists, translators, and professionals of art history and museology retrace some of the major steps in the construction of a global knowledge of the Orient.
