In Reynold's debut novel, The Hood, meet Dennis Smith, Jr. also known as Lil' Do Dirty. He was born the son of Dennis Smith, Senior, a notorious Eagle Glock Crip named "Do-Dirty," thus, his son's moniker came from his dad. His mother, Ruth, was also a gangbanger, who didn't take no smoke, and killed a woman with her bare hands as a teenager, so that was Lil Do Dirty's introduction into the world. Although his parents showed him a lot of love, he learned to glamorize violence.
Growing up in the mean streets of South Central Los Angeles, life was fraught with danger on all sides--from rival gang members, be they Bloods or Crips, or the Los Angeles Police Department who often arrested his father. and the OG's from the hood.
Just as his name implied, Lil' Do Dirty was a terror from the time his father smuggled marijuana in his diaper until he could run the streets with his friends, Lil' Killa Calvin, Dice and Joker, wreaking havoc on the neighboring hoods. Lil' Do Dirty started out with small crimes such as hijacking, selling drugs and graduated to murder. He was driven by his desire to "Put in Work for the hood," and be as looked up to as his father, "Do-Dirty."
At fifteen, Lil' Do Dirty was locked up in Juvenile Hall, experienced being shanked, and almost dying. But instead of changing, he learned more about the criminal lifestyle. Even finding love and becoming a father changed none of his ways.
The death count goes up and you can prepare for a harrowing ride through the streets of Los Angeles until you turn the last page.
