After glimpsing the talents of George Lucas while producing American Graffiti in 1973, Kurtz continued to collaborate with Lucas on his next film, A New Hope, then just known as Star Wars. After the film proved to be a worldwide success, Kurtz produced The Empire Strikes Back as well. Outside of Lucas' films, Kurtz served as a producer on The Dark Crystal, The Thief and the Cobbler and The Steal.
