Under the advisement of his attorney, who he believed had his best interests in mind, Tom pled guilty before an atheist judge (who he had a negative history with) and was sentenced to sixty months in prison. This was despite him having no prior criminal history and the sentencing guidelines calling for probation. In a moment, Tom’s life was drastically changed.
