Pride's plaintive tenor and straightforward delivery evade categorization: he resembles neither the outlaw country figures like Willie Nelson and Merle Haggard nor the pop-country sensations that filled the charts in the 1990s and 2000s. Instead, there is something pure and affecting about Pride's style that evokes the roots of country music (even if his productions might suffer from over-orchestration at times).
