Excerpt from History of New Haven, Illinois
This book was written as a project in teaching Jimmie, who, as many of you well know, is paralyzed, both hands and both feet, and has been for about ten years. It was entirely his idea, but as we worked it grew much like the proverbial snowball. Through this project we have learned something of reading, writing, spelling, language composition, history and geography and their relation to everyday life in his home town. Writing is much more of a task for Jimmie than many of you may realize and his perseverance and good spirit are highly commendable. Many changes have taken place here since the good old days and every one will agree it is a much better place to live now than it was then. We appreciate your advice, encouragement and help. If you enjoy reading the book as much as we have.
