Before the Civil War, Cyrus McCann built a thriving and peaceful cotton plantation. Everything changes after Cyrus is branded a Confederate deserter and lynched in 1864...or so it seems. His body was never found. The past will not stay hidden, and so begins the search for Cyrus' remains, in an effort, by Jesse and the McCann family, to restore peace to the House on Diablo Road, where strange events occur. This, the final novella in a trilogy of the McCann family, moves forward to the 1920s. A new era has come to the sawmill town of Morgans Bluff, where, as the old lumberjack Buck says, "Ain't nothing peaceable for long!"
