Juveniles and Other Stories is an anthology of becoming. The seven stories ask the reader, time after time, character after character: What if you didn’ t? What if you did? What if the domino effect of your choices could be undone by preventing the very first fall? What if it didn’ t fall? What if they all fell?
The book focuses on the theme of ‘ coming of age’ , which in Thai is translated as ‘ ??????????’ — to take a step beyond one’ s youth. It makes you wonder how nice it would be if the inevitable passage of time was all that was necessary to shed one’ s youth. But we know how much it takes. We know the price we paid.
We know that time becomes a shackle, holding us down, forcing us to move. Time does not care if you’ re ready to let go.
