The short-story, is one of the most important literary subgenres in Urdu literature, despite its relative youth. This was influenced by western and literary concepts and tendencies, as well as the contemporary industrial and mechanized environment. Mohammad Hamid Siraj, a popular short story writer of the Urdu world, has made a distinct identity for himself in the world of fiction. He is a natural storyteller who sometimes forgets the established patterns in the way he tells stories. He neither thinks of stories according to any plan, nor does he wear the mantle of intellectualism to tell stories, nor does he make his stories a prisoner of any ideology.
