A continuation of The Cooper Family Series. Henry "Hank" Cooper must contend with being a widower with a newborn son. His mother has agreed to raise the boy, while Hank learns what it takes to be the foreman at his father's Timber Creek Ranch. Charlie Cooper, has an unfortunate riding incident that puts him in a coma. His wife Margaret must now juggle raising her grandson, their younger children and running the family businesses. Hank's older brother HJ has earned his law degree and once their father comes out of his coma finds himself paralyzed from the waist down. Charlie must now rely on HJ to travel to his other properties and report back what he finds.
Hank must get 400 horses from Wyoming to Omaha by the middle of December, but most of the men within 40 miles of Green Springs are on a cattle drive, He has only one choice and that's to hire women who can do the tough work it takes to get the horses in the harshest weather conditions to Omaha by December 15th. He must balance an intimate relationship with his new wife, 20 women, 4 children to break with tradition and form them into hardened, trail-wise drivers. As the time passes into 1917, war is on the horizon as the United States weighs its options on getting involved in World War I.
