Investigative reporter Susan Myers is living her dream as a journalist, but when she begins researching two mysterious murders, her ambition just might get her killed.
Susan suspects that the two deaths may be connected to the Thornapple Corporation and is determined to talk to the eccentric founder, R. O. Thornapple himself. R. O. Thornapple, or Mr. Otis as he prefers to be called, is one of the richest men in Los Angeles and has been a recluse for many years, but he is intrigued by Susan.
Their first meeting at his vast estate leaves Susan rattled. Mr. Otis has his own theory about the crimes, and he will send Susan on a journey that will have her at odds with a secret military organization called the Complex-and its leader, the Commander.
The Commander is very, very good at killing people, and he has no qualms about one more murder to hide the secrets of the Complex. He isn't Susan's only enemy, though. There is also a shadowy mastermind orchestrating events from afar. To catch these two men and bring them to justice, Susan and Mr. Otis will have to solve this confounding mystery before it's too late.
