Does a woman have to remain single to achieve her ambition of becoming the president of a major corporation? Does she have to sleep with influential men to obtain that top position and break through that glass ceiling? Myra, a devout Roman Catholic, didn’t think so and she set out to prove it. Her father wanted her to marry Roberto, the son of an old friend. Her father insisted that the only way women got to the top in the business world was by sleeping with the right men and he didn’t raise his daughter to be a whore. While Myra and Roberto were good friends, she made it plain to him that she intended to stay single for the sake of her future. Myra consulted with her Priest who made arrangements for her to stay in a Catholic home in Tucson for women. Myra left home when she turned eighteen, worked her way through college, then graduate school attaining her MBA and valuable business executive experience strengthening her faith along the way. Roberto, not about to give up, dated her on occasion knowing the answer would always be ‘no’ but hoping for a ‘yes’. Myra found herself a target on several occasions (as most young attractive women have found), overcame these setbacks, but was continually haunted by the question, “Should I have told Roberto ‘yes’? Would that have interfered with achieving my goal?”
