The Document of Forest Origin - DOF is a mandatory document for controlling and monitoring the transport of products and by-products of native forest origin. The general aim of this work is to analyse public data from the DOF system generated between 2011 and 2016 and to identify and quantify the legalised native forest products sold and transported in the state of Rio Grande do Norte. The data used was provided by the Brazilian Institute for the Environment and Renewable Natural Resources - IBAMA. Between 2011 and 2016, Rio Grande do Norte received timber products from 24 states in the country, with particular emphasis on the states in the northern region. The number of DOFs originating in RN grew by an average of 22% between 2011 and 2014 and fell by 13% in 2015 and 2016, with commercialisation and intercity transport observed in more than 90% of the municipalities. With regard to the species transported during the evaluation period, 738 different species of wood were transported, with the highlights being Angelim-vermelho (Dinizia excelsa), Maçaranduba (Manilkara spp.) and Jatobá (Hymenaea spp.). The main products transported in the state.
