"The greatest beauty of all is God's invitation to us to surrender our failures for His second chances, to find hope in hopelessness, light in the darkness, and redemption when all seems lost." We are undeniably wicked and sinful by nature, even as Christians. We all fall short. We cannot save ourselves. These are bleak statements when left unaddressed, but Irene confronts these tough truths in No Makeup as she unveils some of her most shameful struggles, starting with her first encounter with sexual immorality as a child, as well as her battle with facing adultery later in marriage. One day, convicted by the Holy Spirit to stop wearing makeup, Irene obediently removed this one physical veneer, only to find it to be the first step leading her down a spiritual path of shedding one facade after another until her soul was stripped before her Maker. Letting go of her much-esteemed "good girl" image, Irene walks us through her journey toward owning her inborn deceitfulness as she comes face to face with the unrighteousness within her-the struggles we have all experienced in one form or another, but most of us keep quiet and hidden. She lays them bare so we can bear witness to the Almighty's miraculous work of taking charge of these sinful moments and command them into holy moments. In turn, they become catalysts for transformation and restoration instead of Satan's intended destruction and defeat. Irene Kim grew up in the suburbs of Maryland right outside of Washington, D.C. She and her husband, Daniel, have three children and also host children in their home who are at-risk for foster care and/or homelessness through the Safe Families movement. Irene is a stay-at-home-mom and works part-time as a birth instructor and doula. She finds joy in all the little things such as riding horses, journaling with colorful pens, jogging trails, discovering mom-and-pop restaurants, and winning board games. Irene is passionate about Jesus being glorified through orphan care as well as building up individuals and their families through Christ.
