What is "creative" science writing? College student at Colorado State University, Kenna Castleberry, accidentally finds herself asking this question after a series of successful accidents in her research. Being both an English and Biology major, she's seen the miscommunication between scientists and the public firsthand. From her frustration, she decides to look into what causes this miscommunication, and who may be able to offer a solution. In her exploration of "creative" science writing, Kenna realizes that it might be an undiscovered solution to better communication between scientists and the public. She imagines that improved communication could lead to solving problems like world hunger or global warming, as the public can trust and learn freely about new discoveries in science. In order to effectively argue her point, Kenna decides to write from the perspective of an animal, a weedy sea dragon, to communicate the science behind these animals in a more engaging way.
