Down by the Chama River, in the Bosque (the wooded area along the river) beside the tall cottonwoods, a young Arapaho girl called on the Great Spirit for help. She called upon the Great Spirit to send his Angels for help to take the women an children home. "Beside the Chama River, her prayer fire burned as she played the flute. She would pause occasionally to add wood to the fire and warm her fingers. the air was cold, and she sat upon the frozen ground of Mother Earth. At times she would be lost in the flute music she played. Occasionally she paused in playing her music to converse with one of the spirits that arrived to join her, or listen to the Angels giving her guidance. In the distance she heard the calls of some ducks flying south......
