Jenkins (sociology, U. of Sheffield) provides students with a critical introduction to the ideas of French sociologist, Pierre Bourdieu, who died in January 2002, at the age of 71. In a new preface, Jenkins addresses those writings of Bourdieu's appearing after the 1992 edition of Jenkins' text which add insight into Bourdieu's relationship to his own sociological enterprise.
