A former Green Beret, twenty-four-year-old Mark Perry, is missing. Just before Christmas, Perry left his home in West Haven, Connecticut to go to a gun show in Portland, Maine. Neither family nor friends have heard from him. After exhausting their own efforts to find him, his parents hire private investigator Frank Kelly to bring him home.
Kelly discovers Perry has joined a radical militia group, The Defenders of Liberty. The military arm of a secret cabal of Washington insiders, the Defenders don't hesitate to use extortion and assassination to determine the election of the next President of the United States.
Kelly and his associates at Nutmeg Security and Investigations find themselves confronting an extremist threat to American democracy, one that is willing to do whatever it takes to obtain control.
