16-year-old Emma Snow is homeless again. Her hopes and dreams are crumpled into a garbage bag along with all her worldly possessions and material memories. She finally accepts that being part of a family-belonging somewhere-is not meant to be for her, and vows never to love or trust anyone ever again. Emma is invited to stay with a family in their country home on a hill nestled amongst corn and bean fields outside of New Point, a small town in the Midwest.
