No one knows how much money changed hands as the frenzied trading of oil properties in Texas took place in the Roaring Twenties. A startled world was told that six wells in Texas could produce as much oil in one day as all the oil wells in the world. When Sid Richardson was fifteen years old he stood over six feet tall and weighed one hundred and ninety eight pounds, he had broad shoulders, narrow hips and walked with the swagger of a heavy hitter. Sid was boisterous and gruff but had a heart of gold. Opportunity and Sid's ambition were about to collide.
While attending Baylor University he met the girl of his dreams Annie Jo. Fate however intervened and the lovers were separated. Sid was plunged into the turmoil of the Texas oil patch. He struggled to survive and soon made a overnight fortune. He returned to Waco in a white Cadillac to claim his bride, and was heartbroken to learn she had married while he was away. Sid swore an oath that no woman would ever again get inside his brain but his love for Annie Jo had burned a hole in his sub conscious mind that he wasn't able to escape.
After losing his first oil fortune, he stalked Amon Carter the flamboyant mayor of Fort Worth, Texas. Confronting Amon Sid explained he was a gambler and wanted a thousand dollar loan. Amon a gambler himself liked Sid's candor and the two men became partners. Amon Carter would later sell his part of the oil partnership in the Permiam Basin to Shell Oil for sixteen million five hundred thousand dollars and was out of debt forever. Even he could not spend all that new found oil patch money.
