Katharine Hunter was born Katharine King in a town called Calion, AR, a little town about 107 miles from Little Rock. She is the oldest of six children. Her cooking experience came from her Great Grandmother Annie. She started to learn how to cook at the age of five, she had to stand on a Ms Tucker lard bucket to reach the counters and stove. She love to cook with her Grandmother. She taught her to cook a different variety of food, such as green beans, hot water cornbread. But her specialty was teacakes. Katharine dropped out of school to get married at the age of 16. At 18 she bore her first son then her second son was born two years later. She and her husband moved to Little Rock to try and better their lives. They then separated and divorced two years later after 15 years of marriage. Katharine went to raise her two sons on her own. She remarried and have another son. After her second marriage ended Katharine kept to herself she started cooking for the neighborhood children. After the passing of her oldest son in 1993 she threw herself into baking and selling cookies. People started coming over to buy plates and she continued to do this for a very long time. Then one day she baked up a big batch of cookies. After passing them out people started putting in orders, that's when she decided to start her own bake shop from home 'Ms Kays Cookies". Everyone would give her their favorite recipe and she would cook it up for them however the profits were not enough to keep the business afloat so she had to close shop. At the age of 60, she went back to school and got her GED. She also went to college at Pulaski Tech and did a semester at UALR. She went on to become a substitute teacher for little Rock School District. She is still very interested in sharing her recipes with the world so that this is why she decided to make this book of recipes. It has been a long time coming but with determination she is able to share all she has learned so that people can bring these mouthwatering recipes into homes everywhere. Enjoy
