A classic American folk song, perfect for Halloween.
Follow the old woman, all skin and bones, on her quest to tidy up the local graveyard. Perfect for home, the classroom or the music class. The trick to this song is to sing each short verse quieter and quieter until you reach the 'surprise' ending. Once your child learns the secret of how this song works, they'll delight in sharing it with others.
Sheet music and a link to a sing-a-long video of the song are included in the book.
About the Art
"The characters in 'Skin & Bones' started their life as white scratches on a black board. At first their lives seemed bleak and colorless, but then I introduced them to a few pens I know. Freed from the page by a pair of scissors, they all took flight for a new world via a high-resolution scanner where they plied their skills on the stage in some really wonderful digital animation software. Their thespian ranks were joined by some vector-based objects and characters and arranged into scenes. From there the characters seemed to come alive, with a little nudging and prodding of course, and I was able to get some great snapshots of them in action." ~ M. Ryan Taylor
About the Music
Taylor recorded and released the classic children's song, 'Skin & Bones,' on his first children's album, Thirteen for Halloween. On the album, the accompaniment is dominated by the xylophone and marimba, instruments long associated with bones and skeletons in music and the movies.
