Scott Nelson the handsome Navy Pilot is flying the new bent wing F-4U Corsair from the aircraft carrier Enterprise. He finds his aircraft is more than a match for the Imperial Japanese Zero. The Japanese call the new Corsair, whistling death. Follow the new ace around the Guadalcanal Island during the taking of the island in August 1942. Lt Nelson's life takes a nasty turn when he is involved in a midair collision with an enemy aircraft. Nelson falls deeply in love with a navy nurse who has been instrumental in getting him back to health. Scott switches gears and goes on a desperate search for a particular Japanese submarine that intentionally torpedoes a lighted Australian Hospital ship, the Centaur. Scott is informed his new wife was aboard the Centaur on a mercy mission. The long range PBY is the perfect platform to hunt down the villainous captain of the enemy submarine that committed such a heinous act.
