Author Biography: David Witherspoon worked four seasons and two winters at LeConte Lodge in Great Smoky Mountains National Park. He holds a BA in English from UCLA and an MFA in Flute Performance from California Institute of the Arts, and has performed with bands as diverse as the Los Angeles Philharmonic New Music Group, the Aspen Festival Orchestra, The Four Seasons, the Delphonics, his own jazz trio and the infamous Berea Castoffs(http://www.mclains.com/castoffs). His writings, including chapters from Song of the Winter Wren, appear in many obscure literary magazines.
