On July 4 1861, a beleaguered President Lincoln reluctantly permitted secession of the Confederate states. Simultaneously, he granted full citizenship and voting rights to African American, women, and all Indigenous Tribes. The Confederate States of America built barriers to keep out any potential "Northern Aggression" and the two countries developed along disparate lines. In August of 2020, Raven Jefferson, Confederate Daughter and dutiful wife, lives in the Southern Alabama territory of the Confederate States of America. Raven hides the fact that she knows her government lies about their on-going conflicts with the "The North" due to the books her grandmother hid. Reading these illegal books could get her arrested, but if the government knew about her abilities, she would be burned for witchcraft, just like her grandmother. An ill-fated attempt to help her best friend escape leads to Raven awakening injured in a Chicago hospital, forced to accept realities for which she feels completely unprepared. She begins to realize the extent of her former government's lies while adjusting to a world wholly unlike anything she's seen. She must confront the truth of her heritage while adapting to contemporary technologies and ideals. Can Raven find the strength to help others like her escape the CSA? Can she fully adapt to this different world where all people are equal? Can she forgive herself for her past and work towards a potential future? What does freedom really mean? And more importantly, what makes a family?
