Charlton's Sweethearts series was a thrilling and lurid entry in the romance comic genre.
Tales of love, longing, betrayal and desire abound and set the standard for romance comics. There is
terrific artwork by Dick Giordano, Charles Nicholas, Vince Alascia, Ken Battlefield and Jon D'Agostino.
Sweethearts was originally published by Fawcett Comics and started with issue #68, picking up
the numbering from where Captain Midnight ended. It has the notoriety of being the first
romance comic published monthly. In 1954 Fawcett stopped publishing comics and Charlton
picked up the title and some of the left over inventory stories. The first issue of the Charlton
run began with #122, where the Fawcett numbering had ended, then switched to number #23 with
the following issue.
This second volume of the series collects Sweethearts #29-35
