ADVENTURES INTO THE UNKNOWN is historic for many reasons, not the least of which is, it is recognized as the first continuous horror series. Prior to this series, horror stories were included in anthologies or issues sporadically, but with the Fall 1948 issue of ADVENTURES INTO THE UNKNOWN, the era of the horror comic was underway. Between 1948 and 1955 hundreds of horror titles were created, a specialized Golden Age all its own; many were excellent and notable in their own way, but none were as long-lived or as consistently excellent as the original.
