John Wayne in his early days was a studio bit player who listened to stories told by Wyatt Earp himself, but his own story was just beginning. He was an actor, who played a variety of roles just like any other actor would do. He was also in many ways a character himself, because it was enough for a story to be about John Wayne, not just John Wayne "as" someone else. He was best known as the cowboy, the western lawman, but he was also the soldier, the adventurer, and at time even the lover.
