Convinced there is more to the recent disappearances from the tiny crossroads community of Hansen's Mill, he is drawn there to investigate against official orders. Could the vineyard owner and entrepreneur Samantha Gwynne be willing to do anything to consolidate her land? Or does local musician Abe Housman have something to hide, both in his past and in his cellar? The small town is home to a myriad of oddballs and misfits, and all are suspects, including the mysterious local huntsman Frank Morgan. Is Jon really in Hansen's Mill to track down missing persons, or does it have more to do with the new and irrepressibly cheerful waitress at the local diner, Cassie Gateshead? And what of the local Iroquois legend of the Flying Head, and local pot-head Eddie Greenriver's belief that a devil is loose in Hansen's Mill? The truth may be darker than anyone suspects.
