Excerpt from The First Principles of LawThe aim of this book is to set out in as plain and simple a manner as possible, and' in what the author ventures to think 18 a somewhat more philosophical arrangement than the usually accepted one of Blackstone, the most general and elementary principles of the law. It was written primarily for the use of the author's students beginning the study of the law; but it is hoped that it may be of service to students of law elsewhere, as well as possibly to readers who without intending to become lawyers wish to get a knowledge in outline of the nature and methods of legal science.
