Shaykh Waleed Edrees al-Meneese is a prolific scholar, author, master of Islamic sciences and one of the world's leading experts on the modes of Qurʾānic recitation (Qirāʾāt) and Ḥanbalī jurisprudence. He serves as dean of the faculty of Islamic Studies and president of the Board of Directors at the Islamic University of Minnesota, senior member of the Permanent Fatwa Committee of the Assembly of Muslim Jurists of America (AMJA), Imām and president of the board of trustees of Dar-al-Farooq Islamic Center, member of faculty of the Graduate Theological Foundation, and former chairman of the North American Imams Federation (NAIF). Dr. Abu Zayd completed his ʿālimiyyah degree (Advanced License in Islamic Scholarship) under the tutelage of Dr. Moḥammad Akram Nadwī, holds a Bachelor's Degree in Islamic Studies from the School of Islamic and Arabic Studies, a Masters from the Islamic University of Minnesota under the guidance of Shaykh Waleed Edrees, and a Diploma in Classical Islamic Texts from Cambridge Islamic College.
