A high society party in the Hamptons, fourteen places set for dinner, a guest who goes missing before the party, and a year-long search for the wealthy businessman who has disappeared. It's now 1978 and Nicholas Tracy, an NYPD homicide detective with a passion for film noir, stray animals, and the fellow detectives who refer to him as the Rock Hudson of the division, is on loan to the Long Island precinct that is harboring the cold-case of major proportions.
