The strata beneath the Kimeridge Clay have no where been reached within the area described in this Memoir. There seems reason to believe, however, that several thousand feet more of Secondary strata would have to be passed through before any Palaeozoic rock could be touched. Under these circumstances it seems useless to discuss the possibility Of Coal Measures being met with.
