Queen Louise has battled Satan along Cane Creek and, by the grace of God, emerged victorious. But the fight is far from over. As Christians of the Yoodoo faith, guided by the Bible, followers are forbidden to consort and conspire with the enemy Hags-a cult loyal to the demonic arts. When Louise discovers that her longtime friend and confidante-Della, or the Sayer-was secretly married to Pepper, the Prince of Hags, and bore him a child, it is the ultimate betrayal.
Although Louise decides to forgive her, Della unexpectedly turns up dead. Louise suspects the Hags but upon further investigation believes they are not at fault. Recognizing that Pepper is just as determined to avenge Della's death, Louise turns to him for aid, and he agrees.
The alliance moves forward, with Yoodoos and Hags calling a truce, but Louise senses that something is amiss. If the Hags could corrupt one of her most trusted friends, how many others could succumb to their dark temptation? Questioning her skills as a leader, Louise struggles with her own faith and fears that other Yoodoos' loyalty is compromised. It's imperative that she discover the traitors, or the next betrayal could destroy them all.
