Trainee Knights must save a princess from a dragon.
The dragons are not keen on taking part.
The princesses are not keen on taking part.
The trainee knights also don't seem too excited.
However, before they can become fully-fledged Knights the king commands that they follow tradition.
If a dragon is killed, then that is most unfortunate.
The Dragons.
The last dragon family is just not at all keen on taking part. The possibility of being seriously injured or killed just does not appeal.
Father Dragon, Mother, Junior, and Esmeralda may be the last dragons alive and want to stay that way. They plot ways to avoid the encounter ordered by King Thaddeus the Great.
The trainee knights.
Fortunately, the trainee knights are a rather bumbling, hopeless lot.
Sir Basil Cornflake-Jones is afraid of spiders and frogs.
Sir Hilton Fancypants faints at the sight of blood.
Sir Quentin Quite-Teapotty would rather knit tea cozies.
Sir Dudley Cuddly Hedgehog is very shy and would rather play the violin.
Sir Reginald Rhubarb is afraid of cows. He keeps fit by running away
from cows.
The Princesses.
And then there is the king's daughter Princess Miranda - boy, is she a handful. Strong, determined, and used to getting her way. Having to be tied up to a pole, in the rain - ruining her hair is bound to set her off.
Princess Petunia is having her nails done, so she is unavailable.
Princess Patience comes out in a rash when tied up with ropes.
All the other princesses have other functions to attend.
The Confrontation.
After all their stalling Father Dragon in the end must face up to the knights.
In a valley filled with thick black smoke and dragon flames; the king falls off his horse, a princess is screaming, and the knights are blindly swinging their swords and blundering into each other.
Father Dragon exhausted, is guided home by Mother Dragon where Esmeralda has a cup of tea and chocolate cake waiting.
A humorous tale with Mr Heff's quirky illustrations.
Reader questions, activities, and drawing guides are included.
