The Master's Healer of Nowhere is a fantasy novel along the genre lines of the Chronicles of Narnia or the Lord of the Rings. It is a first-person narrative of the main character's memoirs.
The story begins in a small, secluded kingdom called Rose Atonement. There are dragons here (non-flying), but they're largely benign. Within the land is a presence called the Healing. An energizing force or power, "She" can greatly accelerate the body's natural regenerative properties. She is a gift from God (called here the "Liege of Wings") to demonstrate His care and concern for humanity.
The Liege has gifted certain individuals to wield the Healing. These are the Healers. Almost all reside in the city's hospital and academy. A tension exists among this group. Some believe that the Healer should be a conduit for the Healing, while others (the majority) maintain that the Healer should control the Healing. It is a believer vs. non-believer conflict. Not all Healers believe in the Healing's source.
The Healers have rankings, the highest being that of MasterHealer, an extremely rare and honored title. One MasterHealer is head of the hospital's academy and research. He is the main character's teacher and mentor. He is a non-believer.
The main character, Däaven Sakiyr, is a Healer. He is a black man in his mid twenties, and he has a meaningful devotion to God. Although technically a MasterHealer himself, he will not recognize anyone other
than his mentor as being worthy of the title. He considers himself far too young and inexperienced when compared to his elder. And yet, he struggles to rationalize the respect he grants to someone who has little respect for what he (Däaven) holds so dear.
Däaven also is a member of the kingdom's "military," serving as healing support during monthly campaigns against the mountain wild- dragons--not to destroy the creatures but to heal them from a recurring disease. Severely injured in one campaign, Däaven now serves on inactive duty, forever bound to a wheelchair (even the skill of a MasterHealer is beyond the intricacy of the repair). His disability means little to him, but he does worry about the effect it has on others, particularly on his patients and on his "promised" one, his Lady.
In contrast, however, Däaven's limitation becomes his greatest strength, for it allows him to place his trust fully in His Liege and in His Healing, and through him, his testimony influences the entire kingdom.
